About Guardian Charters

After working in the fishing / spearfishing industry for over 15 years, Captain Evan Wagley brings a wealth of knowledge to each of his fishing charters.  Whether drifting San Diego Bay for halibut, diving the kelp beds for white seabass, or paddy hopping offshore for yellowtail, dorado, and tuna, Evan will get you on the fish.

Captain Nathan Wickham brings energy and exuberance to every charter.  Don’t let his age fool you.  After working for several years on the long range tuna fleet, Captain Nate has the know how and the work ethic to put our customers on fish.

As a family owned business, we take pride in customer service.  If you are a seasoned angler, experienced spearfisherman, or just a beginner, we want you to have the best experience while on the water with us.

Our Boats

Our fleet consists of two of THE best fishing and diving platforms on the west coast.  We run a length over all (LOA) 32′ Luhrs Open Express and a LOA 29′ Glacier Bay Twin Hull Catamaran.

Our Luhrs (named Tabatha Darling) is built for luxury, speed and function.  Powered by twin 240hp Yanmar Turbo Diesels, she allows us to cruise at a comfortable 25 miles per hour, getting us to the tuna grounds fast, without getting beat up along the way.  She boasts an 80 gallon bait tank, uber amount of rod holders, plenty of soft seating, four bunks, a head (bathroom), flat screen tv, kitchenette, and full tuna tower with controls for spotting hungry fish.  We use her primarily for our fishing trips, allowing for room to stretch out and relax after pulling on yellowtail all morning!  She was born to kill…in style.

Our Glacier Bay (named Birdie James) is primarily our spearfishing vessel, although she can be fished comfortably by four anglers.  Powered by twin 150hp Yamaha 4-strokes, she is built for speed.  Chasing down schools of bluefin can be tough, but Birdie has already proven herself as the crown jewel of the entire San Diego spearfishing fleet.  With a large swim platform aft between the motors, we can drop divers in on tuna, slide into the crystal clear water of the Coronado Islands, and perform night dives for local lobster with ease.  She will no doubt continue to get plenty of blood on her deck!
